Parliament approves new Acas Code of Practice
The revised Acas Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures came into force on 11 March 2015 (http://www.acas.org.uk/media/pdf/f/m/Acas-Code-of-Practice-1-on-disciplinary-and-grievance-procedures.pdf). There is no need to panic however – the change is very minor. It reflects the decision in a recent case that an employee has an absolute right to request his/her choice of trade union representative or workplace colleague to accompany him/her, provided that the request to be accompanied is in itself reasonable. The precise choice of companion, is not, however, required to be “reasonable”, provided that the companion is either a work colleague or trade union representative.
